Plenitude International Sdn Bhd and CapitaLand Investment Ltd undertook an ambitious project to refurbish Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences, transforming it into the renowned Ascott Gurney Hotel. During the revamp, we were given the crucial role of managing the Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems encompassing the building and Gurney Walk.
Since the refurbishment was done within an existing building surrounded by other high end residential buildings, all construction work had to be carried out at specific times while maintaining cleanliness to minimize disturbance to nearby residents. We also faced huge time and procurement constraints caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the hotel operator laid out specific requirements that needed to be met prior to commencement, adding to the intricacy of the project.
We worked closely with the main contractor, suppliers and principals, ensuring that all construction activities, procurement, and delivery were carried out accordingly. And whenever a problem like air or noise pollution arose, our team was proactive and quick to liaise with the consultants and hotel operator. This approach was effective in mitigating the problems and maintaining positive relations throughout the process.
Despite it all, we successfully met all the required criteria and deadline given to us. Valued at around RM4.7 million, our work was completed to the highest standards, contributing significantly to the overall success of the hotel’s refurbishment.
